"Why do we 'need' Mary?": a practical response

Imagine coming across a reel from Qui Minimo as you are scrolling on Instagram (or just recall it if you've already seen the one I am referring to). As the trending audio begins to play, you see a beautiful but simple protestant Church as the backdrop with the caption "I don't need Mary". As the song builds and then drops, the caption changes to "then why did Jesus?" and rolls through a series of beautiful paintings from the annunciation, to the visitation, birth of Jesus in Mary's arms, the flight to Egypt with St Joseph and Our Lady, the hidden life of the Holy Family, Mary at the foot of the cross, and then Our Lady in the upper room at Pentecost.

Or rather than imagining it, you can also just watch it right here.

At the risk of summarizing Mariology too simply, is this not the most practical answer to "why Mary?" It is certainly not exhaustive, but I propose we start here in illuminating why Mary is necessary for the Christian life.

If God Himself chose to hang the salvation of man on the redemptive yes or fiat of the new Eve, and if He Himself chose to "need" her, and depend on her, and choose her to be His very mother on earth (if you are a mother, you know this is no small task... imagine it being with the Son of God!), why wouldn't we? Why would we not enter into her, as Jesus did, and let her form us, as Jesus did, teach us, as Jesus did? Why would we not let the woman who formed Christ in His humanity form us into Christ?

The same Mother who was the most integral and necessary element of the Incarnation and the Birth of Christ is the same Mother who was there at the birth of Christ's Mytical Body, the Church, at Pentecost. If we hope for Christ to be made incarnate in and birthed through us into the world, she is no less integral and necessary. She is the Mother of Christ, and therefore the Mother of all of the members of His Body, the Church.
